Really NC? REALLY?

May 7th, 2012.

Amendment one passed.

This takes the law against Gay marriage in North Carolina one step further by saying, “No. This is a marriage: A man and a woman. Not two men, not two women, not one man and two women or vice versa.” It bans polygamy and any other forms of domestic relationships. It’s gone a step further by only legally recognizing a marriage if it’s a man and a woman. I took a look at the statistics for who wanted the amendment to pass and who didn’t: this is surprising. Only 39 percent of people were against Amendment one. “Tonight’s results are an unfortunate reminder that the fight for Civil Rights in our state is not yet over. Writing discrimination into our Constitution is wrong. The State Constitution exists to protect the rights of our citizens- not to take them away. Despite this setback, north Carolina Democrats will continue to fight for all of our citizens.” Said the Democratic Party of North Carolina.
Same-sex marriage is only legal in 6 states now, and of course, the District of Columbia. These states include Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

It doesn't only affect gay couples, oh no. It affects all of us. We lost our Health Benefits with this, and same-sex couples won't get insurance anymore.

Now, I don’t understand how it passed but I’ll tell you that I’m pretty sure I don’t like whatever happens next. And also, I’m pretty ashamed of NC for this. Even the suggestion of the law is blasphemous, but when it passes.. no. That’s too far.

..Just a message from your friendly neighborhood Egyptian.

Pregnant mothers abusing of pain killers affects their baby

The number of babies born addicted to the class of drugs that includes prescription painkillers has nearly tripled in the past decade, according to the first national study of its kind. About 3.4 of every 1,000 infants born in a hospital in 2009 suffered from a type of drug because of mothers abusing pain medicine while pregnant. The number of newborns with withdrawal symptoms increased from a little more than 1 per 1,000 babies sent home from the hospital in 2000 to more than 3 per 1,000 in 2009. Researchers estimated that more than 13,000 U.S infants were affected in 2009. Infants from these drugs often require lengthy stay in intensive care units. Hospital charges for treating these newborns went from $190 million to $720 million between 2000 and 2009, the studies found.

Google Glass

If you don't live under a rock then you probably have heard of Google's Project Glass.  If you haven't, then this is what it is.  Project Glass is Google's attempt to make Augmented Reality glasses.  The device would allow to you read emails or text message without pulling out your phone.  You could be on facebook or browsing the web while the teacher is talking.  You can even take a picture without using a camera!  You might look like a complete dork but it is worth it.

Or is it...

Google is infamous for flooding your web browser with advertisements, so will they do the same with your vision.  Having a screen between you and reality could also cause some safety issues.  What if Google decided to block the car that is speeding toward you?  There is also the risk that the screen on the glasses might not work in the night.  The glasses could also end up costing a bunch of money, so only the rich can get it.

The time is coming.... For a graduation dress!

It's almost the end of the year... Surprising eh? You don't really notice until you start thinking about graduation, and most importantly, the dress you're going to wear. It's a big deal for girls, but if you're a guy, you might want to stop reading, unless you're interested in where to buy dresses, and what an ideal graduation dress is.
When buying a graduation dress, you want it to be nice and classy, but it shouldn't be like a ball gown. Don't sweat about getting an expensive, really elegant dress. Simple and cute will do just fine for this occasion.

One of a girl's biggest worry with graduation dresses is that someone will have the same one. It's true, you can get cute dresses from Nordstrom and Forever 21, but the chances of someone having the same dress as you is really high. Especially because we all have the same general taste in clothes. To prevent this potentially embarrassing thing from happening, don't mill around at your local mall and buy a dress there. Try shopping at a boutique or online.
Boutiques are a bit more expensive, but you know that the dresses there are unique. A majority of girls don't even think of stopping by a boutique to look for a dress because it's just not a common idea. However, boutiques are a great place to look for a dress.

The other option, shopping online, is often over-looked as well. Shopping online is extremely risky (an extra small online is different than an extra small at the store?!), but it can pay off. There are often dresses exclusive to the online store, so chances are no one will have your dress.

Here are some good sites to get dresses that range from semi-expensive to not exactly cheap, but they are all still great for graduation:
*Check out the clearance section. There are sometimes good finds there for a good price.

A Man's Best Friend!!!!!

A man's best friend. They wag their tail to comfort you, run and play with you,  and always are loyal to you. Any dog owner could tell you all the amazing things about their dog. Here is the list of top 20 cutest dogs.
http://amolife.com/image/animals/top-20-cutest-breeds-of-dogs.html
I can honestly say, that as I was scrolling through this list, I wanted to cuddle with every, single one of them. A pug made it on the top of the list. Have you ever heard of a Shar Pei? It made number 2 on the list for its wrinkled and adorable face.
Cutest Dog Breeds
Almost all of the dogs are smaller breeds, but Huskies, Dalmatians, Golden Retrievers,  Black and Yellow Labs, and Poodles all made it on this list..
Many of these bigger dogs are not only adorable and beautiful, they are also some of the sweetest and most loyal dogs. Although all dogs are better than cats, bigger dogs are more obedient, playful, and much less yappy. Bigger dogs are better family dogs while littler dogs are more apartment or city pooches. These dogs don't mind being confined into city buildings or not having long walks, some little dogs don't like walking! Big dogs get jumpy and angry when they don't have room to run and play. My Golden Retriever will go run and chase the ball, but then he won't give it back!
I was inspired to tell people about my favorite animal, when I  read an article about a dog who was found in a cactus, with 100's of pricks. When he was all cleaned up, 50 people tried adopting him.
There are tons of dogs who need homes! And every dog will become your new best friend!

Vehicle flips, seven die near Bronx zoo

Yesterday April 30, 2012 seven people were found dead in a car accident including  three children. The police said that everyone was wearing seat belts but the car fell about 59 feet down in a wooded area and crashed  near Bronx zoo . The police are still investigating but they do know  that the lady was driving at high speed. The police also know that there was a baby in that car and there were no animals. The fire department's Howard Sickles told reporters that in his 20 years he's "seen a lot of horrific things and this is one of them.". Authorities said that they received a lot of calls at 12:30 P.M. and that a car crash near Bronx River Parkway had happen  in 2006 as well

British man bought a low-price island 50 years ago, still lives there with 120 giant tortoises

A British man bought a low-price island in the Seychelles for only £8,000 ($13,000), 50 years ago. He still lives there, with 120 giant tortoises, a bunch of birds, and a few dogs.

The island, pictured below, was only several thousand pounds 50 years ago, but now could be worth several million, even more when converted into USD.

The man, Brendon Grimshaw, 86, still lives on the island known as Moyenne. He has since built a house, cleared brush so thick that coconuts couldn’t fall, introduced several plant and bird species to the island, and paved a few footpaths. Brendon is very out of place here, as all the surrounding islands are owned by billionaires, Arab princes, or Russian oligarchs, and many have luxurious holiday resorts. Everyday he wakes up, alone, with the sound of the waves slapping against the beach, and takes care of his 120 giant tortoises, which have been killed off in most of the other Seychelles islands.

NBA playoffs day 1

On Saturday the NBA Playoffs officially started.  The playoffs started with three games from the Eastern conference and one game from the West.  The playoffs started with the (1)Bulls and the (8)76ers.  This game was less about the winner, but more about the injuries.  The one seeded Bulls won, but lost their best player Derrick Rose.  Rose tore his ACL on one of his famous jump stops.http://youtu.be/0S0xX3YdLv8
The second game of day one of the playoffs was a complete blowout.  The (2)Miami Heat beat the (7)New York Knicks.  The final score was 100 to 67.  The game was dominated by bad foul calls, and flops by All-star Lebron James.  http://youtu.be/wJJkvilMSuw
The third game of the NBA playoffs was between the (3)Indiana Pacers and the (6)Orlando Magic.  The game was a surprise win for Orlando with a final score of 81 to 77.  The game was a surprise win because Orlando was playing without their All-star center Dwight Howard. The fourth and final game of day one was a Rematch from the 2011 Western Finals.  The (2)Oklahoma City Thunder and the (7)Dallas Mavericks.  The Mavs are the defending NBA champions.  The game was close the whole time but the Thunder superstar Kevin Durant pulled out a clutch shot with 1.5 seconds to go.  The end score was 99 to 98.  http://youtu.be/-FHMHmJmmXs

Hiding From Face-Detection

According to Adam Harvey, a funny hat, symmetrical glasses, a thread of hair that covers the bridge of your nose, and a black-and-white triangle taped to your face, and other unorthodox makeup and accessories may make you look weird, but it also will do something much more useful for camera-shy people or villains, really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like, stop your face from being recognized by computers or cameras.
Harvey’s project, CV Dazzle or Computer Vision Dazzle, is still a theoretical method of avoiding the detection of surveillance cameras and face-detecting technology that has been put into social networking sites such as facebook or twitter.
“I don’t want to be unrealistic about it. It’s a pretty conceptual project but it seems to touch on a subject that people are still trying to figure out, which is how to adapt to living in surveillance societies, where not only are you being watched by government surveillance but by citizen surveillance and social-media-type surveillance.”, Harvey says.
Essentially, CV Dazzle works by obscuring parts of the face that are readable by the computer, like the bridge of your nose or the place between your eyes. If you cover that, Harvey says you will have a good chance of tricking the computers into thinking that you don’t have a face.

Small Cell Phone Towers

Due to the massive outbreak of smart phone and tablet users, the giant cell phone towers that the mobile devices communicate with are getting overloaded.  Because of that, cell phone companies are making “small cells”, tiny antennas that fit in your hand.
These low-powered small cells can reduce interference, really been far even as decided to use even go to do look more like, improve cell phone reception, and become Wi-Fi hotspots.
Small cells are going to be very important because of mobile traffic booms.  According to Cisco, more than half of the Internet’s traffic will come from mobile phones in 2016.
Carriers would usually handle the Wi-Fi demand by adding new cell towers or more radios to existing towers, but the process is very costly and many urban areas are already crowded with towers, so crowded, in fact, that building new towers may cause interference problems.
